9-1-1 dispatch to stay local, despite less funding

A Texas TV station recently aired a story about the state's budget problems related to funding 9-1-1. This is just one more reminder about what vigilante stewards we need to be during these tough economic times.

From the news report:

The Central Texas Council of Governments coordinates the 10 local 9-1-1 centers within it's member counties.

They expect to need $210,000 to cover the cost difference left by less state funding.

One idea was combining all 10 local 9-1-1 dispatch centers into one regional center.

Reed says, "With modern telecommunications the way we are, there are people going through a drive through in McDonalds and having their call answered in India, and by the time they pull around the corner McDonalds has the order right."
