October is Domestic Violence Prevention

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Everyday, 911 dispatchers across Oklahoma receive calls from victims of domestic violence and sexual assuault.

Did you know Oklahoma ranks fourth in the nation for number of women killed by men? Did you know that one in four women in Oklahoma will be impacted by domestic violence?

Help honor Domestic Violence Awareness this month by becoming more educated and aware of this societal problem. Get more information at the Oklahoma Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. The Tulsa World's Julie DelCour has also written an article, The Color Purple, which highlights the struggle of Laura Milvey, a 28-year-old mother of three who was set on fire by her spouse in March of this year.
